Alex McKay - Waynesville

Alex McKay’s contribution to downtown Waynesville runs well beyond Main Street. He knows the story behind every building and the tale of every milestone. He's eager to share his trove of historical details with others. Alex has provided artifacts on display in two locations. He presents seminars about local history, including "Lost Structures of Waynesville" and "History of Main Street, Waynesville.” He offers insight into the town’s past and the forgotten details of its people, historic buildings, and businesses. He was also an avid partner to the Downtown Waynesville Association in pioneering the Historic Bronze Plaque program.

Alex serves as Vice President of the Haywood County Historical and Genealogical Society, Design Chair on the Downtown Waynesville Association Board, and member of Waynesville’s Historic Preservation Commission. He participates in the annual Cemetery Living History Tour. He’s an enthusiastic volunteer and young historian who should take his place in history as a North Carolina Main Street Champion.
