The East End Facade Transformation project in downtown Belmont exemplifies a successful collaboration between local government and the private sector, aimed at revitalizing and preserving the area's historic character. In the mid-20th century, many property owners in East Belmont installed prefabricated metal slipcovers, which concealed and damaged original architectural details. This sparked a community-driven desire to restore the district’s charm.

Restoration efforts required extensive collaboration, led by the Downtown Belmont Development Association and a former Downtown Director. Together, they secured a $25,000 grant from the Duke Energy Foundation, supplemented by $15,000 from the DBDA's budget. The City of Belmont provided an additional $75,000 to its Main Street Facade Enhancement grant program. Bower Traust Construction offered in-kind services, working with property owners to restore six historic facades. This collaborative approach led to the successful execution of the project.

The project transformed East Belmont, fostering economic growth and community pride. It attracted new businesses, increased foot traffic, and boosted property values. Notably, one new restaurant opened, and another business relocated to the revitalized area.

This initiative highlights the transformative potential of public-private partnerships, inspiring other communities to balance historic preservation with economic development.
