Liberty Park, located in the heart of Downtown Mooresville, has undergone a remarkable transformation. Originally built in 1949, the park previously housed a basketball court, a baseball field, a small playground, and a picnic shelter but was underutilized and disconnected from the Downtown area. Recognizing its potential, the Town of Mooresville embarked on a bold renovation to turn Liberty Park into a resounding community centerpiece. The town committed funding to the project, conceptualized the park with public input and contracted with Stewart Architecture, Luttman Architecture, McAdams, Adams and Associates Architecture, M.B.I. Builders and J.D. Goodrum to execute the project.

Envisioned in 2019, this project was aimed to better integrate the park with Downtown, encourage residential and commercial growth, and create a versatile space for public events. The reimagining was completed in two phases.

Phase One focused on accessibility and visibility, adding a pedestrian-friendly entryway, now known as the Veterans Promenade, connecting the park directly to Downtown. This phase also included a band shell, restroom facilities, a wide-open play lawn, and a veteran's memorial, transforming Liberty Park into a visible and inviting community space.

Phase Two, completed in 2023, elevated the park into a signature destination. It brought a covered basketball court, ADA-accessible playgrounds, a splash pad, pavilions, public art installations, a connection to the Carolina Thread Trail, and a stream restoration project.

The revitalization of Liberty Park also spurred significant development. A $23,000,000 investment resulted in 90 apartments and 32,000 square feet of retail space nearby. These new additions allow residents to enjoy Downtown’s amenities within walking distance while overlooking the park, which hosts concerts and events year-round.

Today, Liberty Park attracts thousands of visitors to Downtown Mooresville. Events like the Summer Concert Series and “Bands, Brews, and Barbeques” draw crowds of over fifteen-thousand people, increasing revenue for local businesses by 30% - 40%. The park has become a hub of daily activity and a venue for signature events, contributing to Mooresville’s social, cultural, and economic vitality.

Liberty Park is now more than just a park—it’s a dynamic asset that reflects the town’s commitment to growth, community, and quality of life.
