Town of Pittsboro

The redevelopment of Doherty’s Irish Pub & Restaurant stands as a significant success story in Downtown Pittsboro, where it skillfully merges historic preservation with modern amenities. Originally constructed in 1950, the previous structure was deemed unsalvageable after being purchased by Greg and Paula Stafford in 2020.
They envisioned transforming the site into a vibrant dining and nightlife destination. As a result, they designed a new two-story restaurant that fits well into the historical context of the area. Additionally, the inclusion of a rooftop dining area optimizes limited space while providing guests with a unique outdoor dining experience.
The project's impact extends beyond the restaurant itself; it has revitalized the surrounding area and led to a remarkable 777% increase in visitors from 2022 to 2024. This dramatic surge has benefited neighboring businesses, establishing Downtown Pittsboro as a lively community hub. Furthermore, Doherty's collaboration with HAVOC Brewing Company enhances its role in the local economy by offering a convenient dining option for brewery patrons.
The Stafford’s efforts have also fostered a sense of community by boosting social interactions, supporting local businesses, and creating job opportunities totaling 24 full-time and 16 part-time positions. By integrating old and new architectural elements and prioritizing sustainable design and community collaboration, Doherty’s has emerged as a key player in the continued revitalization of Downtown Pittsboro.
This transformation has positioned the area as a highly desirable destination for both locals and visitors alike, contributing to a more resonant and dynamic community.
