Bill Cummings is a powerhouse in downtown revitalization. His passion for historic restoration in Downtown Washington was the driving force behind the transformation of a distressed building—formerly home to McLellan’s Five and Dime Store—into the Harbor District Market. The Harbor District Market serves as an incubator for local producers and artisans, providing fresh, healthy food and local crafts to consumers of all income levels. It also educates the public about local sourcing and nutrition, while fostering an inclusive community centered around locally sourced food and products.
Bill’s impact on the revitalization of Downtown Washington has been—and continues to be—profound. At a time when others hesitated to invest in downtown, Bill believed in its potential and has been an active participant in helping the area realize that promise. His foresight in creating the Harbor District Market played a key role in the initial revitalization of Washington’s Downtown Harbor District. His vision for community development and economic growth through historic preservation aligns perfectly with the mission of the Washington Harbor District Alliance.
