Bob and Pat Barker: Fuquay-Varina

2021 NC Main Street Champions

Together, Bob and Pat Barker have supported downtown Fuquay-Varina for three decades. Always looking for ways to give back and improve the communities near and dear to their hearts, the Barkers saw opportunities for downtown Fuquay-Varina to be revitalized. In 1993, they hosted a community meeting to gauge Fuquay-Varina's interest in applying to the NC Main Street program. As a result, Fuquay-Varina New Century was formed, with Bob serving as an incorporator. During the early years of Fuquay-Varina's downtown revitalization work, the Barkers led the effort to bring streetscape improvements to the historic Varina District and in 2006, Fuquay-Varina became a designated NC Main Street community.

The Barkers have personally invested in downtown by building the corporate headquarters for their family business on Main Street, are annual sponsors of the public art canvases that adorn many of the buildings in downtown Fuquay-Varina and are generous donors to the new Fuquay-Varina Arts Center.

The Barkers’ level of commitment to preserve and enhance downtown Fuquay-Varina continues to make a significant impact and, for all these reasons, Fuquay-Varina is proud to call Bob and Pat Barker its NC Main Street Champions.
