2024 NC Main Street Champion
The Brown Family has been a cornerstone of Downtown Elon’s rich history for over 50 years. In 2022, Justin and her husband Eddie Duszlak embraced this legacy by purchasing a historic 1891 downtown building with plans for its thoughtful renovation.
Originally built by Charles Boone as a general store to serve the bustling traffic at the nearby depot, the building also featured living quarters for his family on the second floor. Over the decades, it evolved with the community, serving as Town Hall in the 1960s and 1970s, and later as home to Elon University’s theater program.
Renovations began in January 2023 and were completed in July 2024, marking a significant transformation. The building was carefully updated to meet modern accessibility standards under the Americans with Disabilities Act, while preserving its historical charm. The result is a stunning structure that harmonizes contemporary function with historical integrity.
Today, the revitalized building serves as the Town Hall Annex, adding much-needed office and meeting space to the downtown area. This successful collaboration between the Town of Elon and the Duszlaks exemplifies the mission of Downtown Elon, Inc.
To honor their dedication and vision in creating a vibrant and historic space for the community, Elon is proud to name Eddie and Justin Duszlak as its 2024 North Carolina Main Street Champions.
