2024 NC Main Street Champion
Heather Sawyer is a powerhouse entrepreneur whose love for downtown shines through her involvement, investment, and intentional business practices. As a business owner, property owner, volunteer, and advocate, Heather has become a true champion of Elizabeth City’s revitalization.
In June 2018, Heather rented a commercial space on Main Street to establish her real estate franchise as owner and managing broker. Driven by her passion for downtown, she invested in her first commercial property in 2021, which included a bakery and cafe. Heather took ownership of the business, expanded its offerings, and operated it alongside her real estate firm before transitioning it to another entrepreneur.
She also renovated part of the building into a modern office space for her growing real estate agency, transforming it from a “one-woman shop” into a respected firm with a team of sixteen. Heather’s commitment to downtown continued with her purchase and near-completion of the rehabilitation of Elizabeth City’s oldest commercial building. This historic property will serve as an anchor, featuring two retail spaces on the ground floor and four apartments above.
Heather Sawyer exemplifies how one person’s vision and determination can create lasting change in their hometown. Elizabeth City is proud to recognize Heather Sawyer as its 2024 North Carolina Main Street Champion.
