For 100 years, Conrad & Hinkle has survived the highs and lows of a downtown district. Owner Lee Hinkle took over daily operation of the business after his father retired in 1990, and had been involved in the Uptown Lexington organization since its creation. In 2013, Lee purchased the building he had been renting and immediately began plans for facade renovations. Not only has he partnered with organizations such as the Lexington Farmer’s Market to bring a Wednesday market uptown, but he is also a sponsor for many Uptown events. Lee has been involved from the beginning with Uptown’s current streetscape project: the redesign of the northwest Square quadrant. Uptown Lexington is proud to recognize Lee as its 2019 North Carolina Main Street Champion.
