Roanoke Rapids- Roanoke Rapids Public Works Department Staff

In 2014, the Roanoke Rapids Main Street Board developed a concept to turn a condemned historic property, pending demolition, into a green space in the heart of Uptown. Early on, the City of Roanoke Rapids Public Works Department staff believed in the vision and partnered with the Main Street Board to save the property’s front facade. When funding was secured to develop the green space, Public Works partnered with Main Street once again. From pouring concrete to building the city’s first-ever water wall, the multi-talented Public Works employees transformed the 1026 Roanoke Avenue concept into reality. In May 2018, the urban green space opened to the public with an outpouring of positive feedback. For its outstanding involvement, collaboration, and achievement in the 1026 Roanoke Avenue Urban Greenspace project, the Main Street Roanoke Rapids Board recognizes the City of Roanoke Rapids Public Works Department staff as its 2019 North Carolina Main Street Champion.
