2024 NC Main Street Champion
Susan Martello has been an active and integral member of the Belmont Main Street Advisory Board and the Downtown Belmont Development Association Board since their inception. Since her family began volunteering with the Main Street Program in 2021, Susan has continually expanded her involvement—progressing from volunteer to board member, and eventually to co-chair of the Promotion Committee.
As a veteran of the Army and Air National Guard, Susan exemplifies dedication and service. She initiated impactful projects, including a card-making booth for service members at Belmont’s Garibaldi Festival and an annual flag display in Stowe Park for Veterans Day. In 2024, she spearheaded the creation of a new Veterans Day celebration to honor those who have served.
Susan has also contributed to various subcommittees and special projects, including Moonlight on Main, Soundtracks Music Festival, Sip & Speak, and Slow Art Day. Collaborating with Belmont’s 2023 Main Street Champion, Amy Bossard, and drawing inspiration from her time in Germany, Susan led the launch of the first Bavarian Holiday Fest in December 2024—a new tradition for downtown Belmont.
For her unwavering commitment to the Belmont Main Street Program and her dedication to bringing vibrant downtown initiatives to life, Belmont is proud to honor Susan Martello as its 2024 Main Street Champion.
