Tryon - Dean Trakas

Updated: Feb 13, 2019

Since moving to Tryon 10 years ago to form Brady Trakas Architects, Dean Trakas has been a unique, positive force in Downtown Tryon.

As an architect, Dean was instrumental in the rehabilitation of the Missildines, Bank, and Jackson Buildings, St. Luke's Plaza, Stott's Ford, the historic Tryon Depot, and many more.  His projects led to the downtown district becoming a National Register Historic District.

Dean is also an entertainer and volunteers his musical skills to any downtown event, as a solo performer or with his 3-piece group, The Cigarette Holders. He also established the annual downtown event, Tryon Midnight, a New Year's Celebration that brings nearly 1,000 people downtown for community fun and a ball drop at 10:00 p.m. The event has grown to include food, live music, games, and more, but Dean Trakas dropping the ball on a fishing pole has been enjoyed year after year. He is Tryon’s North Carolina Main Street Champion.
